Degree Requirements for the 2018-2019 Cohort

Number of Credits and GPA

The Bachelor of Arts in Game Design requires completion of at least 136 semester credits with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better. The program usually spans eight semesters of fifteen weeks each, or four academic years.

Grade Requirements and Core Courses

Students must receive a grade of "C-" (or 1.7 quality points) or higher in all core courses for the BA in Game Design degree program. In a non-core course, a grade of "D" (or 1.0 quality points) is considered passing. The core courses are those taken to fulfill the Design, Projects, and Psychology requirements below.

Design

The following courses are required: DES 100, DES 101, DES 105, DES 220, DES 240, DES 260, DES 270, DES 301, DES 302, DES 303, DES 365, DES 370, and DES 400. Six additional credits must be selected from other courses with the designation DES that are numbered 300 or higher. Three of these additional credits can be replaced by a course with the designation PSY that is numbered 200 or higher. (Total: 47 credits)

Projects

The following course is required: GAM 120 or GAM 150. Twenty-four additional credits must be selected from other courses with the designation GAM or CSP that are numbered 200 or higher.(Total: 27 credits)

Psychology

Three additional credits must be selected from other courses with the designation PSY. (Total: 9 credits)

Computer Science

The following course is required: CS 116 or CS 120. Ten additional credits must be selected from courses with the designation CS that are numbered 150 or higher. (Total: 14 credits)

Mathematics

The following course is required: MAT 105 or MAT 340. Four additional credits must be selected from other courses with the designation MAT. (Total: 7 credits)

Physics

Three credits must be selected from courses with the designation PHY. (Total: 3 credits)

English

Six credits must be selected from courses with the designation ENG. (Total: 6 credits)

Humanities and Social Science

Three credits must be selected from courses in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences section of the catalog, except for those with the designation COL. (Total: 3 credits)

Computer Graphics

Six credits must be selected from courses with the designation CG. (Total: 6 credits)

Art

One of the following courses is required: ART 101, ART 102, or ART 105. (Total: 3 credits)

Music

The following course is required: MUS 115. (Total: 3 credits)

Career Preparation

The following courses are required: COL 499 and COM 250. Three additional credits must be selected from courses with the designation MGT. (Total: 7 credits)

College Preparation

The following course is required: COL 235. (Total: 1 credit)

Note on General Education Courses

The following courses satisfy the general education requirement for the BA in Game Design: two ENG electives (6), MAT 105 or MAT 340 (3), one MAT elective (4), MUS 115 (3), PSY 101 (3), PSY 201 (3), one PSY elective (3), one PHY elective (3), and one Humanities and Social Sciences elective (3).
